This took me months to finish. A bit slow and predictable. An ok story that has a sweet ending.
The plot was too predictable, the characters too bland, and their none of their interactions did anything for me.
Is it a bit inconceivable? Yes, but I think that's partially the point. It's a modern fairy tale that looks at some very realistic themes: love and betrayal and reconciliation, parents and their children, war, the spiritual side of life. Well written, intriguing storyline, good character writing. Happily recommend. Would read again.

The Keeper of Happy Endings lives up to its name, though not without first trudging through a sea of heartbreak and pain. The plot is captivating, full of unexpected twists and turns, even if the ending is tied up a little too neatly. My other gripes are with the French in the novel: “Que désirez-vous” doesn’t translate to “What is your pleasure,” but rather “What would you like?” and it felt so clunky when there were random French words dropped in the dialogue when Soline or her mother was speaking—they’re French, we know. Secondly, there was an odd veneration of Americans in the novel—with Anson, who was “American in all the best ways,” and apparently in possession of a smile and good looks that made him obviously American. White Americans and Europeans all look the same…? There’s no way to differentiate them from physical looks alone…?
I was enjoying this book until the end. Everything wrapped up in a neat little bow
