This gem of a story had been sitting on my shelf for a year and a half and I’m so glad I finally got to it! It was predictable in all the ways a WWII historical fiction with past and modern timelines should be with some wonderful twists along the way that kept me needing to know what would happen next. I also really loved having the “modern” timeline in 1985. I think this added something different and enjoyable to the story. I’d highly recommend to anyone who enjoys historical fiction.

I have ready SO many WWII novels that I hesitated to pick this up. I am glad I did though because the war played a pretty minor part in the novel and most of it centered around what happened following the war and the relationship between Soline and Rory. There are some criticisms that everything ended too perfectly but I like feel good, happy endings so that was part of the appeal for me. There are parts that are a little slow but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it.

One of the best Historical Fiction books about WWII I have read. I got lost in reading this book and did not want it to end. This could easily be adapted to a very good movie.
