there are many things I love about this series, but it has just too many characters and subplots for me to listen to it at double speed while multitasking

This finale was a lot to get through! There were so many characters, actions, drama, reveals, and betrayals it was hard to keep up. But Foody's writing style made everything flow relatively smoothly, and I'm glad to have finished this trilogy.

There were tons of characters, yet of all of them, I found Harvey and Levi's stories to be the most compelling. There are no good characters in this book but that just makes them and their actions both complex and unpredictable. I struggled a little with Enne and Lola, as they made some selfish choices that I found it hard to sympathize with them as much as I wanted to.

This book was packed with all sorts of unique magic and elements that make it one of a kind. I looked forward to seeing it, even when it became a little confusing at times. I will admit that having a currently busy life made it hard for me to get into the book as much as I wanted, which may have affected some of my understanding.

I've really enjoyed these books and their characters and recommend this series to anyone looking for morally grey characters, complex magic, eloquent writing, and drama-filled romances and interactions!

I liked a lot of things about this whole trilogy—the characters, the world, the stakes, the games, the relationships—there was a lot to love. I had some problems with the pacing of the story though. It was hard for me to get through the books because so much was happening or going to happen but also nothing was happening. There's a lot of filler and scenes where nothing really happens or a chapter starts with "Levi hadn't seen Enne for two weeks" and I was like ??? what happened in those two weeks around town?

BUT dang so much happened that I did not expect. The characters are written in such a way that I almost hated some of them in their worst versions of themselves. The whole trilogy really built upon each other and it was really satisfying (and sad) to see it all come together in the end.

Brilliant ending to the trilogy

Some of the payoffs didn't quite land and a lot of the reveals were too quickly glossed over for it to be satisfying, but overall it was still a good way to wrap up this YA series.
