dark emotional mysterious tense

Alike most Chris Carter books, this psychological thriller had gruesome and gory deaths, although not as bad as the ones in I AM DEATH. I loved this book, although I read it while in a little reading block so it took me a while to finish.

I will recommend this book to others, as they’re great for getting people into psychological thriller books, always fast paced with little twists that catch you off guard.

Bit cliche, but I could not put this book down. Crime thrillers are my typical book genre and Carter did not disappoint.

The story line was so good and the chapters changing from character perspective made me want to keep reading because you were constantly left hanging.

The standard trope for these kinds of books is that the lead detective (typically male) is fresh out of a failed relationship due to an unhealthy work life balance. I really appreciate that this wasn't the case with Hunter.

Hunter and Garcia are back, this time hunting an apparent stalker who brutally murdered a young woman. What set the case in the lap of the LAPD UVC squad, aside from the brutal mode of execution, was that the killer made the victim's best friend watch via a video call, and forced her to play a rigged game which led to the victim's death.
Carter shook things up a bit in this novel, by including a more involved side character in Mr J, which worked quite well, adding a different perspective on the events. I wonder if he will pop up again?
Procedure still engaging along with the brutality we know and love.
The usual issues with female characters being poorly written, does every woman need to be attractive? Is their looks the most important thing about them?
I'd not fixated on it in his previous novels, but the characters in this book talk out loud to themselves entirely too much, to the point where it became distracting. Too many characters do this for it to be a quirk of personality. What's wrong with an inner monologue?
