After reading the first chapter of this book, I just had to keep going! Chris Carter doesn't fail to impress. He draws the reader right into the story yet again, and yet again, just when you think you have worked out who the serial killer is, Chris shoots you down in flames with who it REALLY is. Brilliant!

DNF a book before this cos it was a little boring and slow-paced so of course I turned to Chris Carter’s books
Only this one by far has been a bit hard to follow (or am I just dumb)
Brilliant plot and structure
Plot was also unique
A reallyyy good one overall

Why did this book give me such high hopes just to crush them in the end? It started with an interesting idea, making the bid bad sound so scary, complicated and intimidating and then when it came to unveiling his identity the writer took such a cheap shot.
Sure, from the start there were telltale signs as overexplaining, repeating points and predictable character dynamics with of course, a stereotypical lead and his side-kick. But I did not expect it to end this easily after the build up.
The whole time the villain's method are described as extremely cruel and in the end his motivation was so weak.
Even with my dissapointment I have to point out that the kill scenes kept me on my toes and I did like the last portrayed conversation. But in the end the story of one of the victims was more interesting than the main character's and the villain's taken together... by tenfold.

The story follows Hunter and Garcia as they investigate the 911 call from the victims best friend after she received a video call from the victim.
What starts as a seemingly ordinary interaction quickly turns into a nightmare as the best friend is forced to witness the victim's brutal murder live on screen. The killer's modus operandi involves using video calls and social media to scout, manipulate, taunt and terrorize victims, asking them questions that ultimately leads to the fate of the victims.
Adding a layer of modern vulnerability to the narrative
The serial killer leaves everyone with an anguishing amount of guilt.
Hunter and Garcia are tasked with unraveling the mystery behind these gruesome crimes.

The villain in The Caller is one of the most terrifying creations. The killer's methodical approach, psychological manipulation, and sheer cruelty make every encounter pulse-pounding. Masterfully builds tension, keeping readers on edge with unexpected twists and revelations.

What sets this novel apart is its commentary on the dangers of everyday technology. By integrating video calls and social media into the killer's methods, it highlights the vulnerabilities of modern life, making the story resonate with contemporary readers.

The writing is razor-sharp, and the pacing is relentless. The alternates between intense action scenes and quieter, emotionally charged moments, maintaining a balance that keeps readers engaged. The vivid and often graphic descriptions of the murders may not be for the faint-hearted, but they underscore the stakes and the horror of the crimes

Another 10/10 read.

Not neccessarily bad, but very boring compared to everything else i've read by Chris Carter so far.

More like 4.9 stars, only bc there were a few errors. The story, as always, was phenomenal and i didn’t want to put this down. I’d truly read Chris carters grocery list

Another excellent instalment that I binged in 2 days. Such a good, gory, fast paced and thrilling read.
