First of all, finally a fantasy book that doesn’t have an elaborate and borderline  incomprehensible beginning!! Now is that due to lack of general development… maybe but oh well. I saw some of the reviews on goodreads and they were pretty harsh but honestly to me this book was really good. It has a mysterious and dangerous mood, and a great romance arc. This book toys with the lines of what’s real and what isn’t which makes the book all the more interesting— it’s a puzzle. The ending did give me a headache and lots of anger like
they’re dead then they’re not dead, is Julian even the same if he’s not calling her Crimson anymore??? What is going on with Donnatellla shhdhshshs
but that’s just more motivation to read the second book.  Don’t forget to check the content warnings :)!
Also yeah a lot of the reviews critiqued the ending and I agree with them. I love a good twist but this was practically nonsensical, it left me frustrated rather than awe struck, didn’t even know what to think.

This was a fast and fun read but it’s not the strongest writing (the similes are a little out of control, i.e. a kiss “tasted like wind”). The magic of the world is very compelling and because of the narrator’s perspective bounds to that magic we’re difficult to establish, but this sometimes cheapened the stakes of the game. When I got to the end, I felt the very underwhelmed.

i really like this book, but isn't a 5 star for me just because i didn't rlly felt the magic in the book and that magical feeling, but overall i rly liked this book,AND I LOVE SCARLETT SO MUCH and
and i fucking hate her dad so much he can k word himself,he should have been the one to die
,also i don't rly like the thing between Scarlett and Julian but some parts were cute and nice, the last 100 pages of the books are the best and the most exciting and nervous of the book and i loved it and also all the clues and some of the magic and stuff, and the finale of the book it's so good i was so shocked, i can't wait to read the others <3

It was a wonderful story that really had you guessing what was going to happen next. Even if you think you have it figured out the story would prove you wrong. I loved this book and it was a fantastic read.

Have had trouble finding a book with a good plot and good writing, but I really enjoyed this one. The twists were good and had me questioning the truth quite often. Admittedly, I’m not super attached to the characters, but I did want to keep reading and I liked them enough. The writing style is exactly how I like it: third person, not choppy dialogue, and a good mix of internal thoughts and scene description. Very excited to read the next two books!
