I quite liked this - it was interesting - but some of the jokes were a bit forced and some of the science was hard to follow. Overall not bad.
incredibly interesting and existentially terrifying, a bit difficult to understand the complex cosmology even simplified though
Physics gets very weird at the extremes of size (subatomic particles and an accelerating expanding universe) and time (the first second of the Big Bang and what the eventual death of the universe will look like). Dr. Katie Mack does a good job explaining it all.
Wow, talk about starting off with a bang! Katie Mack is clearly one of the best science communicators we have. She clearly loves learning, knows her subject, and has a knack for making very complex concepts understandable, or, letting you know as much as you need but acknowledging that she's leaving out the really tough stuff.
I would argue that Katie's explanation of the beginning of the universe may be better than the endings but it is all fascinating.
On a superficial note, the book looks and feels lovely. The perfect read for a long flight.

It was a fascinating read with a lot of cool science-y stuff. Mack does a nice job of simplifying big things, but even then, sometimes I found myself lost with some of the details.
Wow! I am not going to pretend that I am smart enough to understand everything I read in this book. It was still extremely fascinating though and makes me want to learn more. We can *see* the Big Bang? I recall being taught that we really don’t know if the Big Band happened or not. (I don’t know if this is because I’m an old lady or because public schools in Missouri have to tiptoe around to not upset religious folks.) The possibilities for the demise of our universe are all very exciting in a morbid kind of way!
