Thank goodness it’s over. I struggled to understand what this book wanted to be. I also felt no sadness when certain characters died and I realised that was because I felt like I didn’t know them. I’m also never a fan of a WW2 book.

I think Quinn paints a very vivid, deep picture with The Whalebone Theatre in which you can really connect with the characters, and vicariously to the War. My main issue is that it's too long. I feel like out of the five parts, parts 2, 4, and 5 were carrying the majority of the story. There's a lot of superfluous information and character development.
Not for me, subject and writing style.
