Not my cup of tea.. if i hadn’t been reading this for a book club I would have definitely DNF.
The book had way to many characters coming and going I felt like I couldn’t remember who was who. Also a good chunk of this book could have been cut out..
I think the story could have been more interesting but it just feel kinda flat to me. It had some good parts of the book and I enjoyed the relationship between the siblings.

This is a wonderful book with engaging characters and a fascinating storyline ranging over the first half of the twentieth century. I enjoyed the split timeline format, and the inclusion of letters and newspaper reports. This is a potential top 10 of the year contender for me.

Een prachtig boek, dat me zeker ontroerde op momenten. Of het een monumentaal boek is, nee dat niet. Vandaar 4,5 i.p.v. 5 sterren. Mooie personages, mooie enscenering, prettig leesbaar.
