One of my absolute favorite books. Beautifully written. Wonderful characters and a page turning story. So sad it’s over.

I found the first half of the book incredibly tedious, I struggled to relate to the main character. By the second half I was invested enough to enjoy escaping into their world (the backdrop of the war was intriguing) but it was still a slow burn. Not my cup of tea!

Rounding up from 3.5 to 4. The characters are rich. The writing is well done. I enjoyed both halves of the book but the issue is that it feels like two stories. The time jump from childhood to the war years left me struggling to feel the connection of the characters. However I loved the sprinkling of theatre and the arts throughout. I wish it read more seamlessly but it was a good effort.
