This book took me so long to finish and was an incredibly expansive story. There were so many lines that made me wish I was someone who underlined sentences in books. Made miss the theater and also made me cry

It’s a beautiful story and I loved the setting. The house reminded me a bit of downton abbey which really enjoyed. I wish I felt more emotion for the characters though.

The second half was a 5 star book but the beginning just wandered around like my kids when I am telling them it's time to go to school. No real sense of urgency.

What amazing, beautiful writing - the story itself is wide-ranging and yet manages to feel contained, and…symbolic? I guess? in a way that I didn’t worry about pondering. Real, but just outside of reality. I’m not making sense here, but the book is somehow literature and kiddie lit simultaneously, in the best of all possible ways, as if Joan Aiken’s Dido Twite found herself as a WW2 spy. But boy, there are some descriptions of grief that hit hard.

I LOVE finishing books. I’ve never understood when people say “I didn’t want it to end,” because I’m always so giddy to move onto the next one and get that ‘to read’ pile actually read.
But this was the first time in my life I can truly claim that to be the case. Such a fantastic journey with great characters, imagination and heart. Reading this book was like having a perfect cup of tea hit just at the right time.
