I enjoyed this book, it was a quick and easy read that drew you in. It definitely wasn’t my favorite out of the series, but I liked it! I think that it’s interesting how Rukh didn’t really know any language at all. I can’t imagine how hard/weird it might be to grow up and live completely alone your whole life, without interacting with anyone else or being around any sort of language. It makes me wonder, what is he thinking in? I know I think in English, and that fact was something I was very conscious of the whole time I was reading this. I have a voice in my head, as do most people, but can you have a voice in your head without a language? It’s very interesting to think about! I thought the story was cute, with mild spice. It’s so crazy to me how quickly these girls just give in to the men! It reminded me a lot of the first book, how Georgie just was like “oh he’s kinda cute guess this is my life now!” I much preferred Liz’s story since she was so stubborn about the whole situation, which is something that makes so much sense to me as I feel that’s how I would be in that situation. I liked how we got to see more of the planet’s geography and how we learn that it’s more than just snow & caves everywhere. I have no clue how nobody found Rukh before, I mean he was obviously very close to the “home base” of the tribe to find Harlow in the beginning. Anyways, I thought it was cool how we got to understand his reasoning & everything, and I feel so bad that poor Harlow thought she’d left those 3 dead for so long. I also liked the little ending we got, it was pretty cute & I’m satisfied!

Loved learning about Rukh’s backstory and his interactions with the tribe. Harlow and Rukh’s story was a sweet one.

I enjoyed Rukh and Harlow’s story of two people who have been abandoned finding solace and family in each other in isolation. Rukh’s “Mowgli/Tarzan” vibe was not necessarily for me but I loved how the author wrote it to be for Harlow, who’s battling her own fears and demons around her inoperable brain tumor and her constant fears her cancer is back despite the healing effect of the khui. I think this was a good story of introverted hermits finding that community and family is not that bad after all. TW: cancer, abandonment, neglect, and pregnancy complications.
