“Like Wild - but make it gay!” - Anita Kelly
It seems like everyone that hikes the Pacific Crest Trail is either running away from something, or searching for something.
Alexei and Ben meet along the PCT by accident when they are intercepted by a rattlesnake. They continue to cross paths along the trail, and ultimately decide to walk together for a ways.
Alexei is highly anxious, a list taker, overthinker, kind of a loner. He recently came out to his family and it did not go so well. Not only is he dealing with rejection from his family, but he’s grappling with how to keep his faith when he’s been taught that who he is is a sin.
Ben is charismatic, makes fast friends wherever he goes. He’s just getting out of a toxic relationship, and figuring out his next life move.
I loved Alexei and Ben individually, but especially together. They complimented each other so well.
Each character had their own stuff to work out, but their seemingly opposite personalities helped them to see themselves from the others view.
Their romance wasn’t an all-at-once fall right into a relationship either, they had to work out their own hangups to make it work.
I also appreciated the neurodivergent rep in this book; it was part of the character but didn’t boil the character down to a list of symptoms which was SO refreshing.
Read if you like:
-Grumpy/Sunshine, opposites attract
-Imperfect and loveable characters
-Real life heavy stuff balanced with banter and humor
**CW: Homophobia**
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher; all opinions are my own.

I could not have loved this book anymore! I am already missing Lex and Ben so much!! I hope they make an appearance in a future book.
I was so impressed with the character development- even the minor characters were so well written (Ruby!!)
