Not quite as good as love & other disasters, but still so sweet and heart wrenching and thoughtful.

This book is absolutely breathtaking. A remote setting, such as the the Pacific Crest Trail, requires vibrant characters to avoid becoming dull, and this novel did not disappoint on that front.
Alexei’s religious trauma was written about with such care, it never became gratuitous or veered towards trauma porn. His character development was treated with similar reserve; while he makes a lot of progress towards feeling comfortable in his skin, it develops very naturally.
Finally, the writing was absolutely perfect. So many novels contain dissonance between the narration and the characters/story, whether through language that comes off as too pretentious, or language too simple to convey the potential of the storyline. Oftentimes this dissonance takes me out of the story (or makes it unreadable altogether), however the author hit a perfect balance of simplicity and poetry, creating a seamless narration in which the characters, events, and descriptions are woven together clearly and beautifully.

Graphic: Homophobia
probably not a perfect book but it was perfect to me (even though i hate third act breakups). this book triggered me in ways i didn’t expect but in a way that was maybe a little healing. i’ve never related to a queer character like i related to Lex. this was wholesome and so cute. i kicked my feet, i cried, i replayed scenes, i paused and just rested in moments. i had such a great time and will probably come back to it again.

A wonderfully entertaining love story, set along the beautiful PCT. I couldn’t put it down, and was deeply invested in the development of the relationship and the complications along the way for Lex and Ben.

This sweet, gay romance was so beautiful. Alexei’s relationship with his parents was one I could relate to and left me tearing up often throughout the book.
