Really excellent. I appreciate how it continues to build on previous stories, and so think this has been the best story and volume so far. This is a story that is deeply compassionate without feeling moralizing, and a comic that manages to unify and expand a sometimes messy part of the DC mythos (the world of deity). Kelly Jones’ rendition of Morpheus is truly spectacular on every page—the way Jones draws clothing in this is particularly striking (though I wish he didn’t draw women the way he does). It suffers from unfortunate 90s-isms, though it’s much subtler in its prejudices than the early issues. Mazikeen’s speech was also nearly impossible to decipher. All in all, it’s really a beautifully illustrated comic with a beautiful story. I’m really excited to see how it is adapted by the show.

Tori was right: the Sandman just keeps getting better. Excellent ending to this volume.

I find it difficult to rate this book. It is the first comic/graphic novel I have read, so this might have influenced this as well, but I am not sure it is for me. I could not stand the art style to be completely honest. The characters differed so much between pages or even on one page. It was difficult at times to recognise a character by its looks. Luckily the important characters had their own bubble and text design as well, but it was still jarring to me.
The story was fun and easy to follow up until episode 5. After that I lost a little interest because I didn’t really know or cared for any of Dream’s visitors.
Favourite passage was the bit with
Berschau: “I am Berschau who bathed in the blood of children! I AM BERSCHAU AND THIS IS MY PUNISHMENT.” 😂

6/24/18 - interesting that on the reread, I was much more entranced by this novel. It was engrossing and I couldn't put it down. I am spending more time between the graphic novels rather than binge reading them and that could be the difference. 5 stars
Not as spectacular as the first three, but definitely still amazing. - 4 star initial review

I love the surreal blending of so many pantheons and somehow Gaiman makes it work and seem normal almost mundane.
