Love the premise and the build-up of the conundrum of what to do with Hell. Don’t love the literal deus ex machina solution. But there’s so much other good stuff in this that it’s still worth four stars despite the (in my mind) too easy solution.
One of the best volumes from the Sandman series. All of Sandman is amazing, but Season of Mists will always be my favorite because of the descriptions of the Endless, the crazy idea that Lucifer would quit being ruler of hell, and the fact that my first tattoo came from this story.
Seeing the whole original Sandman comics Lucifer quitting Hell storyline that inspired both of my favorite tv shows (Lucifer TV and the Sandman season 1) just made me relive everything I love about the emotions behind it, and I’d even say objectively the writing of Lucifer and their place in Hell and why they left is SO MUCH MORE POWERFUL in the original comics. Neil Gaiman literally is the person of remaking Lucifer’s character into one of the most popular complicated (TM) character in modern media. I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT.
Cannot wait till Sandman s2 comes out and I GET TO SEE GWENDOLYN CHRISTIE VERSION OF LUCIFER IN THIS STORYLINE ON SCREEN. I think I will literally die.

Great, this was another great volume with fascinating plot twists and characters. I never expected things to go that way! It was cool to resume the story about Dream and get to know his siblings. The Endless are an interesting cast for sure!
I started this volume as I listen to part 2 of The Sandman audiobook. It’s good to go back to these characters. I like how one of the open threads of volume one is addressed and resolved here.
The buildup and the big contention is interesting but I think it got resolved too easily. I was expecting more of a struggle and consequences of Lucifer leaving and closing hell.
Maybe it isn’t completely resolved and will crop up at some point in future.

I've read up until and including Brief Lives, and this is, without doubt, my absolute favourite in the series so far.
