Sometimes the right book comes along at just the right time. A friend recommended Matt Haig's Reasons To Stay Alive and I loved it, and this just happened to be first book by the same author that I found.
I was delighted to find many of the same ideas expressed in this book. The Humans is full of wonderful insights about what it means to be human, and how we might cope with the inevitable challenges that our humanness presents us with.
I would like all my self help books to be disguised as alien body-snatcher stories. Why are there not more in this genre?

5*

Wow...my second Matt Haig novel. I am hooked! Despite the language sprinkled throughout, I enjoy this authors writing style. I was laughing out loud as the alien first detailed his impressions of humans and his social blunders trying to masquerade as one initially. His personal growth from there was endearing. Wonderful read! How to Stop Time and The Humans were very different novels but both 5 plus stars!

I struggled with this book....the idea is fun but the plot is predictable and simultaneously unbelievable, the character "development" comes out of nowhere, and it is WAY too preachy.  It could have been 50 pages shorter if the philosophical rambling had been cut shorter. But it has some sweet sentiments and just enough mystery and intrigue to keep you hooked, though I did feel a bit silly for staying invested for so long.  Wouldn't read it again but glad that I did I suppose.

So funny! And adorably heartwarming. I love a good fish-out-of-water tale, especially when aliens are involved. The main character reports hilarious observations about the humans around him, which is just delightful. When he moves from thinking the world is confusing to beautiful, you move through the emotions with him. And I agree Matt Haig, Emily Dickinson is truly the master.

A being from across the universe is sent to take care of knowledge they think humans are too... Young? Thoughtless? Mean? To have. It doesn't go as planned. Humans have a way of getting under your skin.

A lovely read.
