This is a wonderful trope- the outsider describes humans to themselves. Tropes become tropes because they work. This is a well done use of this situation. I enjoyed getting to know humans along side this 👽 alien protagonist ...who seems so very... human after we're done... very enjoyable read.

Witty, entertaining, and an excellent balance of lightheartedness and seriousness. I'll definitely be checking out more of his work.

Get emotionally attached to an alien learning about the human world.

Humans are weakend by their drive being rooted in feelings; or are they?

I enjoyed an alien perspective on the oddities, shortcomings and strengths of the human race. Not too fluffy, and not too serious. A good blend for reading on a plane or poolside

This is a comical yet heartwarming book about an alien who has inhabited the body of a math professor on Earth. He’s on a mission to halt human progress and that mission involves m** der.

He’s pretty baffled and even disgusted by human behaviors. The inadvertent mischief he gets into by not knowing the rules of earth is pretty hilarious. He ends up staying on Earth longer than expected.

The longer he stays, the more he starts to adjust. He picks up some tips from Cosmopolitan magazine and Emily Dickinson poems. Through his experiences he learns about family, home, and what it means to be human.

It’s funny seeing the alien talk about Earth as an alien planet and how everything is alien to him. It’s true though. He’s experiencing everything for the first time. Love how he compares things to the universe and other space-themed things. That’s brilliant.

“Everything feels a little bit alien. I would say, a tad otherworldly…”

It’s an honest and funny view of human behaviors from an alien’s POV. I had a blast with it! I felt all of the emotions right along with him. It made me laugh but by the end I wanted to cry.

This is overall an imaginative and beautifully written contemporary Sci-Fi novel. I highly recommend if you’re into that kinda thing or even if you’re not and want something different.

This was a clever story about an alien that has to come to earth because someone has discovered something they shouldn’t. Our alien friend hasn’t little concept of how things work on earth which gets him into precarious situations.

This was quirky and much better than I expected once I knew it was about aliens. It’s really an exploration on humanity.

4.5/5 - Does require a certain suspension of belief and not taking the science part of it too seriously but I always enjoy books that make fun of the human race. This book is funny, witty and honest about how flawed we are as a species, and yet we manage somehow. In general a big fan of Matt Haig and if you read more about the author and his mental health struggles, his books make a lot of sense.
