3.58 AVERAGE

Exciting but predictable

Fine literature? No. Exciting? Yes! Definitely worth a read if you enjoy horror and caves. I enjoyed the entire premise.

To the Center of the Earth was a book I wasn’t very impressed by. The horror elements of the novel were executed very well. At the same time, none of the characters came off as very likable or sympathetic. The plot was predictable. The climax of the story was slightly below average and the writing was as well. I had a big issue with the plot holes in the novel. I can see what the author was trying to do with this story, but I don’t think it was achieved. I could see a casual reader looking for a fun horror, adventure story liking this book, but it wasn’t the book for me.

Fun... Like a timepass mindless fun... Could have been a greatest novel if not for idiocy of some characters.

I'll admit I picked up this book because I thought it was the original, not a retelling/spin off, and I'd say in general it is a pretty middle of the road novel.

I thought the writing was quite clumsy at times, but some of the horror descriptions were disgustingly good.

I didn't find myself really caring about the characters, they were all pretty forgettable and seemed very emotionless, especially when their friends dies. I also found a lot of the descriptions, especially of the landscape, difficult to picture in my head.

All in all, it wasn't horribly bad, but not spectacularly good either. I probably will pick up the next book in the series.

Read #1  -  Finished 2/2023. One of my favorite books now.

Read #2 -  Finished 4/2025. Still one of my favorite books.

I enjoyed this book so much! The characters are well developed and the story is captivating.

A very nice old-fashioned science fantasy story.

Struggling between 2.5 and 3 stars for this one. There were some really cool creature moments in this, but the dialogue wasn't great, and the characters constantly made stupid decisions. Their reactions to moments of horror just weren't believable to me.

Still, it was fun and quick and I do think I'll try give another book by this author a chance.
