I’m not the target audience for this book as it’s aimed more at people who have little to no experience in mending. However, the diagrams showing how to do/use each technique are EXCELLENT.
And the illustrations are cute

This book is well written and illustrated. After reading many how-to textile books, I often have found that the diagrams and illustrations of stitch work are hard to follow. Not so with this book. The illustrations are clear and well done, making it easy for the reader to follow both the written directions and visuals. I’d say, for beginner menders, this book will set you up for success.
The writing and stories throughout the book are sweet, personal and inspiring, and written in a way that draws the reader in. Highly recommend. It is a book that is resourceful and useful, that will carry through the ages.

A beautifully made book that will continue to be a great resource! The hand-drawn illustrations are much clearer than photographs when demonstrating sewing techniques, since they are able to utilize color to show where they are working.
My only complaint is that there are a few moments that feel more ad-hoc, and I wish they would have consulted with a tailor for better technique. The best example I can think of is the "taking in a t-shirt" part where the instruction is just to draw a line on one side then roughly try to match it on the other. I think tracing paper or carbon paper could be utilized well here to make a more symmetrical match.

I have read a lot of books on visible mending, at least 5, it’s something I am very fond of. This book is my favorite of those. If you’re only buying one book on the subject, for yourself or someone else, make it this one. Covers it all. Beautiful, inspiring, simple for beginners. Also: almost every set of directions begins with: 1. Brew a pot of tea. I mean, for me it would be coffee. How can you not love that?
I started mending my family's clothes and darning socks during COVID-19 lock-down. I couldn't find the time to bake like I had hoped I would - something I knew I enjoyed - but mending was a rewarding thing to do with my hands in between teaching my son. I've kept up with it and this book will be a go-to for a while as I figure out different techniques.
I loved this little book. And it gave me what I needed to know to try darning a pair of favorite socks for my spouse. I believe in the mending life though I don’t practice it often. Satisfying to try, and to know I can try again. Also enjoyed learning about the Japanese art of Sashiko stitching.

Bonne lecture.
