It’s scary to think how easy people can turn on one another. The authors described the crisis so well, that I believe if it ever happened in real life, it would happen almost exactly as stated in the book. After only three days, people would kill one another for water. What’s funny is as I was reading this, my mouth kept getting dry, and I constantly kept thinking about water and how much was left in the water bottle I had nearby. The authors were that good at describing the crisis.

I'll admit I was a little disappointed by the easy ending but overall a good drama.

Didn’t realize it was a standalone. I read it like the beginning of a series and kept waiting for more. It’s very good for a standalone! I just kind of want to reread it now.

I have to give this book 5 stars because it was good enough for me to find, purchase and read for a second time after 5 years but I was kind of disappointed the second time

“as a kid you idolize your parents. you think they’re perfect, because they’re the yardstick by which you measure the rest of the world, and yourself…but there’s that moment you realize they’re not superheroes, or villains. they’re painfully, unforgivable human. the question is, can you forgive them for being human anyway?”

really enjoyed kelton’s realizations about his parents and the pages where alyssa was in the fire w garrett. i just really like apocalypse books and this one was pretty good!!

3.5 stars. Good, but not exceptional for the genre.

Keep plenty of water nearby. This book will make you thirsty.

Dry is set during a severe drought when all the taps run out of water, and the communities affected do whatever it takes to stay alive. Reading this book for the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine was incredibly bizarre to me. It’s astounding society can change so quickly, and if I had read this before current events, I don’t think I could have possibly related to it or understood it nearly as much as I do now.
Having said that, I think it may be triggering for some people to read this book right now, because the beginning chapters really, truly felt so similar to what we experienced toward the beginning of the year that it knocked me around a little.
For the story-telling, for the characters, and for the overall message, I can’t give it anything less than 5 stars. I was completely engaged from beginning to end.
