It’s a great concept for a book, but I was so annoyed that everything fell apart on day 2 and 3. These upper middle class families that shop at Costco all had zero water, soda, anything. I feel like if it was a little more believable it could have been an enjoyable book.
Riveting, and kept me wanting to read more. That's Shusterman! I loved how varied the main characters were (Alyssa, her 10-year old brother Garrett, the survivalist across the street Kelton, the independent Jacqui, and the observant/conniving Henry), and how what the other characters observed about each other helped me understand the motives of each. A couple of spots actually made me gasp aloud, and I was pouting when I'd accidentally left the book at school. What I didn't really appreciate was that everything was wrapped up nicely at the end...

A great high paced read that makes you think and ask hard questions. I think this would be a great book to add to any upper middle school or high school English class.

A really interesting book. Definitely got me thinking about what I would do in these kinds of dark and stressful situations. I felt the characters diverse yet very relatable for their actions.
