I understand it's a cozy middle grade mystery, but if you're going to set it in present times, why not have the books you reference a mix of old and newer and not just old? Missed opportunity, truly.
Adorable and heart-warming--the perfect book to curl up with while waiting for the "January thaw."
First in the Pumpkin Falls Mystery series, this is a sweet book about the pains of growing up, being in middle school, and having to move to a new place. Truly Lovejoy is being moved away from her best friend and cousin, to a very small town where her dad grew up. While helping her dad and aunt at the new bookstore, she stumbles upon a mysterious love note. This is the beginning of the the Pumkpkin Falls Private Eyes.
I really like that the characters are real in this story: you have Truly, who feels awkward, Lucas who has an overbearing mother, Scooter who is a bully but not over the top mean, and the adults are characterized very well. The situation with the dad who was injured in the war is very well written.
While the mystery isn't a suspenseful mystery, this is a book written for 3rd grade and up. I think a few of the reviewers forgot that. It is a mystery in that the kids are looking for clues, and also a thief is abound in Pumpkin Falls.
I highly recommend this series for school libraries.

I really liked this book! It sure took me a long time to read, though. Fiction really isn’t my favorite genre and I wasn’t really in reading mood, and Absolutely Truly was a bit slow, but I enjoyed it nonetheless!
A fun setting, sort of bland characters, except the lady wanders with kittens in her pockets, and not much going on. Extra points for the kittens.

Grades 4 and up. Touted as a mystery, this realistic fiction is so much more. Truly's father was recently wounded in Afghanistan, and is now struggling to readjust to life as a wounded warrior. The family relocates to a small New Hampshire town, where Truly makes new friends, deals with a growth spurt, learns how small town communities draw together to support one another, and yes - solves a small mystery along the way. Truly a joy to read - pun intended.
A great read about a great family - dealing with a lot of issues, but a really solid core of loving family, which is always nice to see. The family moves to a small town far from their old neighborhood and Truly is devastated. She becomes involved in a minor mystery (no dead bodies, no threatening anything!) and it is a wonderful, warm read- easily recommended to a multitude of readers.
I loved this! This is a true coming of age story. Truly has to navigate Pumpkin Falls, a small town her father grew up in. She knows no one. This is a great story. I loved it. Please give it a chance.
