I liked the plot a lot more on this one. It wasn't just a romance, but it had a mystery too. The family drama was very good and I really liked Gareth and Hyacinth as characters. There seemed to be a bit more focus on the plot rather than the steamy scenes which was quite refreshing, much like book 5. It might be my favourite one yet purely for the difference in storyline, but I am reading rhe last one soon (will update review when I do)

It’s in his kiss- 4⭐️ 3.25🌶️

This is the mystery to solve book with the absolutely reckless heroine.

This is my favorite of the Bridgerton Books. It’s definitely the funniest. Lady Danbury is one of my favorite side characters in the whole series, and her being featured in this makes it so much better.

Hyacinth is one of the best girls in the family. Her wit and unabashed nature is great to read in a regency romance full of demure debutants.

Gareth was a great pairing, a rake with a great sense of humor who doesn’t take himself too seriously. He had his moments with his father that made me want to smack him upside the head, but overall he’s a likable guy.

And the second epilogue is adorable.

This one was my favorite so far of the entire series. I loved the interactions between Hyacinth and Gareth. Lady Danbury came back which is always fun.

Good plot, fairly good characters. After the prologue where Gareth's evil dad tells him he's not his real son and engages him to a wealthy but mentally disabled woman to repair the family fortune, I was worried Gareth was going to be a repeat of Simon where he refuses to ever marry. Now at 28, instead it seems he's been living as a rake for the past 10 years? Didn't seem like he did anything??
Hyacinth is ~22 and been through 3 seasons with 6 proposals she's turned down from people mainly after the Bridgerton good name or for money. Most suitors are turned off by her bold personality, she's not afraid to speak her mind. I liked that she has a close relationship with Lady Danbury, that she goes and reads to her once a week, and surprise surprise she's the grandmother to Gareth (will Gareth be black in the Netflix show then!?).

Hyacinth and Gareth meet again at a Smyth-Smith Quartet and hit it off. Later they meet again when Gareth comes to Lady Danbury for help translating a journal his mother wrote in Italian, and Hyacinth volunteers to do it. This becomes the main plot of the book which I enjoyed.
Gareth is hoping to learn who his real father his. But Hyacinth discovers that she hid jewels in the family estate house! She and Gareth have a couple nighttime escapades to follow clues from the journal to try to find them as they would be good for Gareth to have since he'll inherit so little wealth. There's also a couple kisses, and Gareth realizes he loves her and asks Anthony for approval to marry her, which he receives and he proposes to Hyacinth and she accepts. But then on their next search of the house they are discovered by Gareth's dad who reveals to Hyacinth that Gareth isn't his true son. But then Hyacinth finds out from the journal that Isabella, Gareth's mom, had sex with Gareth's dad's BROTHER. So it's all in the family. They go ahead and get married. Then it time skips in the epilogue and the dad died, they're duke/duchess or whatever level of regency and though they never found the jewels Gareth "found he had a knack for business" and has repaired the family fortunes, and they have a daughter named Isabelle and a son George together.

The 2nd epilogue pisses me off.
Their daughter Isabella discovered the diamond necklace and jewels and has just hid them for years until she overhears Hyacinth and Gareth searching for the jewels in the bathroom one day, that they've been searching "for 15 years." UGH. What kind of child would just hide clearly priceless jewels for years!? Another year passes and Isabella STILL hasn't admitted it, instead she fucking re-hid them for Hyacinth to find. And that's it. It ends with her calling for Gareth that she found them.

This is Hyacinth's story; the youngest Bridgerton, now all of her sisters are married there's nothing to deflect attention from her own prospects. But she's not like the other girls. But when Lady Danbury's grandson, a notorious rake, asks her for help translating an old family document, secrets are revealed and passions are inflamed...

I think this is my favourite of the books so far. Although all of the Bridgerton girls have agency and appear to be fairly enlightened in terms of marrying for love, Hyacinth is the first who comes across to me as truly ahead of her time. She's relatable, funny, acerbic and just generally doesn't fit the mould of the usual Regency leading lady. That made her so easy to read and like as a character. Likewise, the leading man, Gareth St Clair, is a proper foil for her and their developing relationship sings from page one.

I also like the development on Violet Bridgerton's character - she's always been sweet and attentive to her children, but the author has written this book in such a way to give Violet and Hyacinth a special bond. She does play the interfering mother card a little, but there are some genuinely heartfelt moments between mother and daughter which are beautifully done.

Of course, it does help that the plot is fairly predictable, but that doesn't take away from their budding romance. Yes, if you've read one Bridgerton you've basically read them all, but they are light and easy reading at their best. And if you're not one for smut, you'll be fairly safe with this one; there are a couple of scenes, but nothing too explicit and certainly a couple of notches lower than the last book.

I feel like the TV series has done Hyacinth a bit of a disservice, as now I've read this I think they've taken most of her character traits and given them to Eloise. Part of me wonders if that's because they weren't/aren't expecting enough series to get to Hyacinth's story, but I'd be interested to see how they develop Hyacinth in light of this, and therefore how many changes they might need to make to the storyline.

Very enjoyable.

I feel like the younger Bridgerton siblings get slightly forgotten, but honestly this is nearly my favourite - second only to Colin and Penelope - and Hyacinth is easily my favourite Bridgerton.

I really loved the way they fell in love and the slight mystery of the jewels and the diary. The only thing that nudged it down for me was basically that I wish Gareth hadn’t been
such a prolific shagger before getting married - found myself hoping it was all a ruse! And i do wish he’d realised he was in love before he proposed.

This was a bit of a wierd one for me - I found the first couple of chapters very boring and the banter a bit trite. Kept on being told, not shown that there was chemistry between the two and their respective personality. Plus the usual amount of predictable somewhat questionable male behaviour, but that's just Bridgeton for you.

But then, later on I liked how much the personality of Hyacinth and Gareth came through and thought the resolution of the tension between him and his father well done. So bit of a mixed bagged overall.
