Oof, this one packs a punch! It’s bleak, intense, and claustrophobic in a way that feels all too possible. Lynch doesn’t give you much room to breathe; no chapters, barely any paragraph breaks, just this relentless march into authoritarian collapse that creeps closer and closer until you’re fully submerged.

The writing is stunningly lyrical but also sharp, and full of this quiet fury that grows with every page. You feel Eilish’s desperation so deeply it’s like it seeps into your bones. It’s not an easy read by any means (honestly, at times it’s suffocating), but that’s kind of the point. It’s not here to comfort you.

That said, the relentlessness can be a bit much. There were moments I had to step back and take a break, not because I was bored, but because it was just so heavy. But still, it’s powerful, timely, and painfully well done. Definitely worth reading… just maybe not when you’re already feeling fragile.

I don't care about dystopian political stuff so I gifted it to my brother.

Loved the idea, poor execution. The prose feels very overwritten and characters are poorly realised. Unfortunately couldn't emotionally connect with the main character at all, she felt very flat.
