Flawless. Utterly extraordinary. Made me think about women in the Bible in a completely new perspective. Floored by this author and these stories.

i really enjoyed reading this little novella collection.☺️
there were only a couple things I wasn't fond of, but for the most part i believe they stayed true to the Biblical plots. i also really liked the Bible study sections at the end of each book... i want to go back some time and work on those because the few questions i read through seem like they point to God’s hand in the lives of the characters.

i appreciated how Rivers stayed close to the plot, and for some cases it provided more context to the Bible stories themselves. i’m cautious of Biblical fiction that revolves around Bible characters, just because i feel like too much creative liberty with the stories can be disrespectful. the only part that i felt a little uneasy with the direction of the plot was during Mary’s story and how Rivers wrote in Satan. i’m a little on the fence with how i feel about it because it just feels a little too “spiritual” for my personal tastes.

however, as works of fiction, i do believe they respect the original stories well enough for me to recommend.

I loved this book in moments and found it tiresome at others. Overall it got me more deeply connected to the biblical stories, seeing myself in their shoes and asking questions. It helped them come alive in a new way and that was helpful. I found the prose a little clunky at times.

I got this as a gift from my friend and it was actually my first Francine Rivers! It’s a collection of retellings of some of the most important women in the lineage of Jesus, written in historical fiction format. She definitely took creative liberties, which some people don’t like, but I found these stories made it easier for me to contextualize the actual bible stories. And finishing with the story of Mary felt like the perfect way to enter into during Advent season.

One of my favourite books! I read the story with such clarity as if I was viewing the lives of these woman from the outside of a window. Each woman gave me a different form of encouragement and hope. A must read for every woman of God. It will surely keep you going through tough times.

I thoroughly enjoyed each of the stories within this book. Francine Rivers is such an amazing author. She's able to add just enough detail to the story, but without straying from the truths of the biblical account.

I can't even explain the spiritual effect that book had on me. Yes, it was just a book full of old, some well known, others not as familiar Bible stories of women as perceived by one author. But if anything is clear about this book it's that God used it in my life. May God bless every person who uses there talents for the good of His Kingdom. I highly recommend this book, as well as the author, to anyone who enjoys reading.
