I really wish I loved this, but it just simply felt like I read it... too late? It has such a unique premise and one I was super interested in - about a woman who wants to remain child free - but after discovering that community on tiktok and other spaces online, this was just very repetitive. Also the characters were just so incredibly over the top and ridiculous, they felt much more like archetypes than actual characters. I also felt like the amount of drama being child free caused Olive was kinda ridiculous? Not just from an enjoyment place but also for young women reading this, it felt like it was trying to explore the topic but also showing only the bad parts? idk i just wasn't a fan. it wasn't bad but it wasn't great either.

An important topic told in a way that made me think about having children in a new way. But the writing was clunky and the plot fairly forgettable.
This book, about a woman who doesn’t want children navigating that choice, started out very insightful about how women with these feelings are often negated or looked down upon. However the ending sucked and was a little too “chick-lit” for me.
this was really different than other books I’ve read i.e. protagonist doesn’t want to have children and everyone else does, but I really enjoyed how everyone’s perspective of motherhood was shared. Everyone’s life is a mess basically and that’s okay! I did cry during a certain breakup scene that was too relatable lol
“Looking back, perhaps the baby thing was always more of a blurry idea—one that I could never totally zoom in on. I could only really imagine it hypothetically. The idea of becoming a mother was something passed down to me—from my mother, and her mother’s mother, over centuries and centuries of social conditioning. It seemed like a no-brainer. Like all the other milestones in the how-to-be-a-person manual.”
For Olive, the classic life script just doesn't feel like it quite fits. This story does a great job of capturing that time in your late 20s/early 30s where friends are transitioning to adult lives with homes and marriages and kids and things can just be... weird and hard.
I can't tell you how much I needed this book
This book touched my heart. It does a great job of feeling each POV around how we can choose to/might have to live our life around the topic of motherhood, friendship, and moving forward & uncovering who we want to be. Truly, I feel so understood. Also one of the few things that helped me get actual clarity on my confusion around not wanting children.
