So good. Deeply sad yet hopeful. I grew to love all of the characters in this novel. They each have their own stories and traumas that resulted from living under a dictatorship, but the bond they have and the progress that is made is captivating.

Five queer women looking and hoping for freedom in 1970s Uruguay - a country and time period that I don't see much in literature. This book is simply a masterpiece.

My original rating was 4 stars, and then I moved it to 5 stars. Upon talking with my buddy read, I’m changing it back to 4. I wanted more of Malena’s story, more so than any of the other characters.

If you like book that is full of family dynamics over several decades, both blood and chosen, I highly suggest picking this one up.

This book was both optimistic and heartbreaking and it was just what I needed.

One of the best books I've read in a while. Beautifully written with great characters and interesting subject matter. Great read!

The first part was a bit slow, but I fell in love with the found family by the end. I enjoyed imagining Cabo Polonio and picturing the characters there. I love how De Robertis integrates history into her books. I loved the different and complex depictions of five lesbian characters.
