Though this book was a disappointment for me it still had Austen’s quick wit and fantastic writing. I had a couple of issues with this book if I’m being honest and it hurts me to say that about anything Jane Austen. But it’s the truth. So let’s start shall we? Coming hot in number 1 is (drumroll please....) the heroine Catherine Morland! She bugged me so much it was aggravating. I understand the moral of the whole story is to not be naive and assuming and that is illustrated through Catherine, I just could not handle it. All of her problems mainly occurred because of how naive she was and that was annoying! Number 2 is.....no romance! I understand that this book is mainly social commentary and isn’t really meant to be read for the romance but it was disappointing to find hardly any! And finally number 3 is.....how boring every character was! I know, I know, most people might come out and say “no they are very interesting!” But I just didn’t get it. Everyone besides Catherine and Isabella had no defining characteristics, they all seemed blended together. Yes, even Henry was too boring for me (sigh). Those are the top 3 things that bugged me about this book but despite that it is still worth reading!

Hilarious. A masterclass in POV -- Austen got on the unreliable narrator train long before any of the dudes who I am sure would like to take credit for its invention.
It's interesting to read this as an adult and recognize that as much as one would aspire to be Elizabeth Bennet, one is probably more of a Catherine Morland; but likewise, as much as Mr. Darcy persists in the popular consciousness as the perfect man, one would be very fortunate to capture the regard of a Henry Tilney. He'd be considerably easier -- and quite delightful -- to talk to.
