I have not DNF a book in years but this felt like one grasp at complaining after another. I appreciated the author’s other book “How to do Nothing” far more - it had some compelling arguments and a unique POV that expanded my own view of some of the concepts. This, yep no.
Felt like a lot of this has been covered by other books (like Braiding Sweetgrass, which Odell cites frequently). Found myself wishing she had a more unique point of view but it’s still a good exploration/critique

Whoops, finished this last week and forgot to log it. I continue to enjoy these Jenny Odell books and how they look at things, like time, in a different light. Always wind up learning a lot too; little diatribes on human social behavior, mini history lessons on concepts, etc.

I love Jenny Odell. I want to reread How to Do Nothing. I’ve started keeping the Sauces Bald Eagle cam open in a small browser on my laptop at work. She wrote that in the summer of 2020 she was watching the Decorah Eagles live cam. Wild to think she was looking into my town as I sat on the side of the river reading her first book.
