The plot was kind of weak and didn’t do much for me. I was much more interested in the settings of France and Spain. I also didn’t understand the dialogue since it was the 1920s, but it seemed funny. I enjoyed the cyclical ending and how serene it became after the chaos in Pamplona. Yay Lady Brett Ashley! (Jake is pretty cool too.)

“It was hot, but the town had a cool, fresh, early-morning smell and it was pleasant sitting in the café. A breeze started to blow, and you could feel that the air came from the sea.” for some reason reading that gives me peace

thanks to this book I’ve traveled from nights of Paris to bullfights and San Fermin’s fiestas in Spain (didn’t like the bullfights, tho)
other than that nothing much happens, however, being in other countries (at least to me) was enough, not to keep me SUPER engaged, but to really enjoy reading and experience it
I laughed out loud and was entertained with the bit of occasional drama
(this book probably has controversial stuff since it was written in the 20s century by a male but I honestly was just here with a mentality set to have a fun time)

I give this book more like 2.5/5 stars but I rounded it up to three cause Hemingway. There is literally no plot and I found it hard to get through BUT Hemingways writing steals the show. His historical impact within the world of writing makes so much sense cause the way he describes and portrays things is so correct. That’s the only word I have for it- correct. But if you asked me to explain what this book was about I’d really be like: some guys in Spain watching bulls fight with a girl and a jew that they hate.

I may not be coming at this from the fairest of views. I had to read this book for school and had to read it in one night. Probably not the best way to read this book. I remember being incredibly frustrated, especially at 3 am, because it moved so slowly and seemed to go nowhere. Someday I may give this one another shot.

Not terrible for a classic.

Książka o niczym więcej, niż o hektolitrach wypitego alkoholu. Duży zawód.

Insufferable for a long time, Jake being a blindingly boring fellow to follow the activities of, but ther book come to life in the second part when Jake and Company head to Spain for the Fiesta.
There are sparks of wit and philosophy, the quirks of humanity are analysed and its a real page-turner and a firecracker but its muddled in its themes, I cant tell what its trying to say and the ending section left me unsatisfied and again, in disdain for the character of Jake, hoping Hemingway was nothing like him at all.
