I liked how the book started, then it took a sharp detour into a completely different trope and abandoned the vibe of how the book started. But it was ok.

It wasn't a bad book, but the book kind of felt like the author wanted X to happen and the characters did X (even if it wasn't in character for them).
There were a lot of short storylines that wrapped up shortly after they were introduced. It gave this book more of a "mini-series" feel than a singular story.
The author missed out on a lot of interesting potential plot points. Some later plot points felt like they were only "twists" because the author's phrasing was vague or misleading at an earlier point in the book.

This wasn't what I expected at all. More romance than serial killer. Side of mystery. I think the budding romance between the main characters as well as the family dynamics are front and center in this story. I really enjoyed it.

I really liked the audio book, but if I was reading it, I'd probably only give it a 3. It's not the book I thought it was going to be and it kept twisting and turning and I ended up really enjoying it. It's darkly humorous and twisted and definitely won't be everyone's cup of tea.
