  • WLW friends to lovers
  • new to college life (freshman)

This one read a little young for me, but I think it's perfect for college-aged people! I think both main characters were well described in terms of their past and how that has affected their relationships (or lack there of). Molly was a bit of a struggle to read as her anxiety is overwhelming (to her), but knowing people who struggle with that level of anxiety I can understand it. The plotline of Alex helping Molly overcome this anxiety to ask out her crush was cute. Overall if you're the right age for this one I think it's generally a cute read, it just wasn't personally a fav for me.

I enjoyed this. I really like both of the characters and their issues and watching them overcome them, and the fact that it's written by a married couple is adorable.
I was incredibly nervous toward the end because Molly is Alex's only friend. Molly has been reaching out and making friends with a supportive family to fall back on but if they date and it goes bad, she has no one. That stressed me out but having Jim step in and her mom in rehab made it better and the finale was just so cute.

Recomendado queda.

The love guru is in! Brash and bold Alex is determined to help shy and introverted Molly date Cora, the perfect way to show Alex's maybe-still-a-girlfriend that she can do commitment and and doesn't flirt with everyone she sees. But as Alex and Molly become friends, they each realize there is more to the other than meets the eye.
Queer, funny, and emotional, this was a sweet read. I really loved the complex characters, they are all so fleshed out and not just one note. At first I was off put by Alex and her somewhat abrasive personality. But much like Molly, I soon realized how much more there was to her, and why she is the way she is. (And how incredibly sweet, and thoughtful she truly is!)
I am really glad this book didn't shy away from topics like alcoholism, race, and toxic relationships. I was kinda worried how these subjects would be handled, but it was all done incredibly well and realistically. There is no quick fix to getting sober, and there is no easy way to end a toxic relationship. It's important to have people in your life who can support you and point out their concerns and fears with your partner.
I also liked the inclusion and differences between Alex and Molly in regards to how they experience college based on their financial situation. It's not often I see the college experience show someone struggling to make ends meet, and the reality of what it is like to go through that.
A great queer romance, and one I definitely recommend! I can't wait to check out other books by these authors now.

THE GOOD: This was a pleasant surprise! This is a YA, but it's on the older side of YA, so the writing didn't always feel too young for me. Normally I don't like books by author duos, but this was so good! I have ALL THIS TIME on my TBR and I think I'll be reading that soon!

THE BAD: Some of the writing was a little young and cringy for me.

Favourite quote: "Some things have to fall apart because they don't belong together, but some things belong so much they could never break."

I wanted to stay up late reading this and had to force myself to go to bed and save more reading for another day! I liked the short chapters and the dual POVs from Molly and Alex. They’re so freaking cute with their banter!!

The novel is marketed as She’s All That meets What if it’s Us but the synopsis made me immediately think of the classic 80s movie Some Kind of Wonderful.

Their characters are so well written and they’re both book lovers, even better 🥰 I also appreciated the anxiety rep, and found myself relating a lot to Molly! Loved the character development throughout the book as well. I laughed, giggled, and cried throughout the book. The romance is a sloooow burn just how I like!

LOVE that the authors are married 😭🥰 Lippincott’s other works are on my TBR and Derrick published Forget Me Not this year which I’ve been seeing rave reviews for (I can’t wait to read more from them both). Honestly so so cute they wrote a book together and dedicated it to their relationship/one another 💗 The book is friends to lovers and that’s also the authors romance story 🥹

The ending was good, if a tiny bit rushed which is why I didn’t give it 5 stars. It’s for sure a favorite and one I’ll be recommending often! A sweet, feel good sapphic romance that doesn’t revolve around coming out which is always a nice change 💗

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5/5)

Tropes: Enemies to friends to lovers, dating/relationship coach, slow burn

Rep: WLW romance with both MCs identifying as lesbian, 1 MC is half-Korean and has social anxiety
