So this rating is really 4.5 stars. The second book I liked best, but the entire series was very entertaining for me. I love how Crouch does his flashbacks, they are not confusing or muddled, and each one brings something to the story. The same goes for when he touches on different characters point of views.
SPOILER!!!
I really enjoy a concrete end to things, but can appreciate the vagueness that is them going back into suspension. I will admit though, that when his eyes flick open at the very end, I wanted something a little more.
Overall, this was an amazing series that I really did not expect to whip through as fast as I did.

Toxic masculinity everywhere. Pages 218-222 were exceptionally rife with it. Yuck. I like this author’s ideas but his characters are hard to want to keep reading about.
Ah…the final book of the trilogy. It has the lowest rating of the 3 for me, *but* I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I think when comparing the book to its’ predecessors, it’s really hard for this final book to stack up for me. Pines (#1) is the exact reason I’ve come to love Crouch; it has elements of surrealism, sci-fi, a hint of thriller and overall a strongly plot driven story. Wayward (#2) held on fairly strong with the continuation of the plot and definitely transitioned into more of a thriller. The Last Town…well, it is primarily a thriller at its core. Due to this, the is an abundance of combat/action forward portions of the book that aren’t necessarily my favorite thing to read. It continued the story and was necessary for the specific plot, but it played a role in my rating. Along with this, I don’t loooooovvvvveeee a focus on romance …. I’ll just leave that right there. I was, however, overall happy with the ending of the trilogy. These books were really fun to read and I am glad I delved into Crouch’s earlier works. Maybe? I’ll consider the TV show …

Really enjoyed this final book of the trilogy and how it was all tied together. The ending was not what I was thinking and the whole series is a yes for me.
Obsessed with this series! First book I’ve read by this author and I’m excited to read more!
