I very much enjoyed the conclusion. It was a strong third and final entry of the series. And for the crazy story it told I think the ending is satisfying. (well maybe could have done without the epilogue but I get why it was written) I have throughly enjoyed this series and would totally recommend it!
It pains me to ding a book from Blake Crouch, but this was just not a good book. As someone who loved the first book and tolerated the second, I felt the need to complete the series.
This book went absolutely nuts with split narration. There are pointless chapters that follow one-dimensional characters just so we can watch them die. Every chapter with Hassler is a vain regurgitation of his chapters in the previous book. He took way too long to bring Hassler into the plot, especially for how little impact he had. The Theresa chapters were painfully dull.... Basically, any chapter that isn't titled "Ethan" or "Pilcher" is not worth much. An argument could be made for Ted or one of the security people in the mountain, but for the most part these seemed like ways to draw out the story. The effective result was to dilute the strength of the protagonist.
My other complaint and this is consistent through Crouch's work, is that he has an intriguing and cerebral premise for each of his books but sometimes gets self-indulgent with action scenes. The first third of this book is the action fallout from the previous book, but I find it very boring and repetitive.
Yet, I liked the ending. The weight of complexity with the fragile sheen of optimism is the epitome of Blake Crouch.

A pretty disappointing conclusion to such an exciting start of the series. I felt this last installment started too many unnecessary last minute storylines that never fully got resolved. The characters seemed different and pretty ridiculous most of this book and the plot kind of went off the rails. Glad I finished it, but had been hoping for something better.

From reading the reviews on amazon it didn't appear to me that many people actually liked how the series ended. I've stated before how book 2 should have been book 1- at least imo. book three just starts back at the end of book 1 - I don't want to give to much away - lots of surprises, tied up ends - I will say this - the last page is the best, In 70,000 years Ethan Burke opened his eyes. :)
I hope he makes a new book- I would love to see the continuing struggles of the end of humanity.
