Mafi has done it again. captured my heart with her books. this so wouldve been a 5 star if i hadnt stated this book in a kind of slump, which caused the plot to be a little confusing at first and she uses a lot of bigger words

I tried to like it, I really did. However, I came across a few issues that made me hesitate giving it anything higher than 2 stars.

1) the writing was kind of obnoxious.
I see that it's improved since the author wrote Shatter Me, but it was filled with purple prose. She tried to sound so lyrical and mystical that her sole focus was on the writing style and she'd practically abandoned the plot.

2) plot? Who is she?
The thing with Shatter Me is, although its language was lackluster, its plot held a captivating aura that made up for it. This book? Nothing. I literally can't tell you anything that happened that got me hooked. It was so boring.

3) the pacing... Ugh.
The book literally took like 50 pages to explain a scene, then 10 pages of background information, then 1 page where anything truly happens. The plot moved forward the last 20 pages! 20 pages!

4) the characters.

*Alizeh: she's boring. Her whole personality is about being a maid and loving sewing. She does nothing. Has no real character. She strives to live an isolated life where she can be free from the shackles of being a snoda, but she does NOTHING to achieve so. She depended on other characters to set her into motion. Boooringgg.

*Kamran: he was an enigma. He tried so hard to draw himself up as this cruel person in his first few chapters, but then his facade literally crumpled the moment he SAW alizeh. He doesn't want to rule or do anything with his life basically. He's all like:
Woe is me, grandaddy want me to rule
Woe is me, grandaddy want me to marry hot girl
Woe is me, grandaddy don't want me to marry alizeh who I met for 3 seconds.

*Cyrus: mean b*tch for no reason. Literally none. Also, he's a ginger...

*Miss Huda: useless to the plot and is there just to scream and complain about her looks.

*Hazan: The only character with wits about him. He set the story forward, time and time again.

5) the romance.
Insta-love much? Yall had two interaction and were kissing already. Calm down.

6) finally thoughts.
I don't think I'm going to continue this series. I heard that Cyrus is going to be a love interest later on and he literally is a F*CKING GINGER. Ed sheeran who?
Alizeh is weak ass main character and so is Kamran. The writing seemed over the top. And I don't think I care honestly.

PS: I have no problem with gingers. I love gingers. But a ginger MALE love interest... Nope. I'm out.
