oh Guardian, the place you have in my heart <3
This was a beautiful conlusion to the story. I find the story behind the four hallowed artifacts so interesting and I loved how much they explored this and gave it a proper ending. Obviously loved Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan’s story and loved getting to know more about how they met and how Zhao Yunlan came to be mortal and why and I’m really happy with how their story ended (I did shed a little tear at the end of chapter 24 cause omg I really thought shit was gonna get bad).
There’s a lottt of info and story dump in this book. Did I understand 100% of it? Fuck no, but Guardian is a story where you don’t need to understand every single detail to know the whole story, and it’s best to just go with the flow and enjoy the story as it is, which I did and even without understanding everything, I still loved it.
I wished Guo Changcheng's story was more developed? We get a huge detail about him and it’s just left there, when I feel like it could’ve been more explored. Also loved seeing his and Chu Shuzhi’s adventure and them getting closer as friends.
Guardian may be a bit of a confusing story, but it’s also beautiful, so detailed that really makes you curious to know more, amazing characters that tie so well into the plot, with such a heart warming and beautiful love story TT I love love love how well the romance is intertwined with the main story and one cannot exist without the other.

This got a bit tough to read towards the middle bc there was just so much going on. But while I considered it the weakest novel in the series, it was still good. However, I would have liked some fluffy bonus chapters to balance out all the plot heavy bonus chapters but that may be just me.

Maybe I went in with low expectations, but considering no one seems to like this book very much/DNF it and say its confusing/weird, I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did! I honestly even think I kept up okay with the lore/world building - but mostly, I was just happy to be along for the ride.
I will say, it did feel like Priest had two books - a fun, gay ghost investigation murder mystery story and a high epic fantasy she spent 10 years planning, didn't know what to do, so just smashed them together. I totally understand why people don't like this book, as, up to a point I can say it makes total sense and was properly foreshadowed, but a lot of it felt so incredibly out of left field and crazy. But, I personally really liked it - it was my type of weird and crazy.
