Overall an extremely fun read. The schemes are intricate (enough that I might reread it to make sure I have a handle on everything), the characters are charming, and the romance is very sweet. I also really enjoyed the extras, I want all books to have little snapshots of people's lives post-canon.
Ideal first danmei novel--manageable length, easily learned worldbuilding, and no "challenging" dynamics in the romance.

"I hold all the world's famous mountains and rivers in my hand, but what of it? They're nothing but a bunch of rocks and wild waters. Of all that I am, the only part worth anything may be my heart. If you want it, it's yours."
4 stars - great conclusion! Humour was great as always (Daqing will always be a favourite character of mine) and I loved how each of the character's development was shown, particularly Guo Changcheng. Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei's relationship was really nice to read here too as their dynamic changed as Zhao Yunlan found out more about Shen Wei's plans. Chapter 21 was one moment between them I really liked where I thought it was really sweet that Zhao Yunlan waited for Shen Wei, just as Zhu Hong said, despite Shen Wei's fears that Zhao Yunlan wouldn't want anything to do with him anymore. Can't believe Shen Wei was so doubtful even after Zhao Yunlan told him this earlier on in the novel:
"I treasure you so much. I really...In all my life, I've never had feelings like this for anyone."
"Nothing that comes from your lips, whatever it might be, could ever make me hate you."
My only issue with this is that I was a little lost with the 11 years in the past thing but the bonus stories help explain that a little better. 'The Mountain Spirit' bonus story was sad to read as it really emphasised how long Shen Wei stayed away and waited for Zhao Yunlan/Kunlun although I did like seeing how Zhao Yunlan's personality as Kunlun's incarnation seems hereditary (as Shen San seemed to be the exact same as him TvT). Finding out Zhao Yunlan was the one who gave Shen Wei his name was so cute too. Loved that the story ended with Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei taking a well-deserved vacation though it was quite sweet.

The final arc of the series is... A clusterfuck, I'm sorry. If you've watched the live action adaptation and thought the final arc was messy, then the book's final arc is just as messy if not more. Not only did we get a whole history lesson of the entire world, we later learned said history lesson is fake and modified, so don't even bother trying to understand the lore. The whole final fight feels like a blurry fever dream. Such a shame, the past 2 volumes have been consistent 5 stars for me... At least the extras are cute.
