This took a bizarre turn midway through, and I just didn't like it. The writing style (third person present tense) is not really one I care for, and I just never quite cared about any of the characters.

This book was a super interesting concept and could have been really cool but it takes an odd religious turn right at the twist of the book. The story was executed well for what it is. Didn't get bored or upset with it, but I can't say it was my favorite read.

I’m sure this book has a lot of hidden messages, but I’m rating it based on what I initially took it as, which is boring. It started off really strong and interesting. I was excited to read about 14 contestants, trying to survive a game of Hide and Seek for 7 days in an abandoned amusement park. But then, I got completely lost, things that were suppose to terrify you just didn’t make sense and I had to reread a lot of paragraphs to understand what was happening.

Engrossing and the inclusion of class, race, orientation, & ableism was sincerely appreciated.

I can definitely see this being a book that is hard to recommend. I think you can look at this from so many angles and take what you want from it. I enjoyed it, though, I wasn’t a big fan of the instalove and I was hoping the story went a different direction. The shifting POV’s took a bit to adjust to as well. However, the overall delivery, did keep me intrigued. Glad to have picked this one up.

I'm way more conflicted about this review than I thought I would be. As I was reading, the reveal of the "villain" really disappointed me, but the more I thought about it I did like the story. Still conflicted and went with 3.5 rounded up.

A crew of misfits arrive at an abandoned amusement park to compete for life-changing prize money in a week-long game of hide-and-seek that soon turns deadly. This creepy thriller had great twists while also serving as a commentary on class, privilege, and the myth of the American dream. I was hooked cover to cover.
