Dark Force Rising

Well-plotted and decently written, especially for a franchise book.  Thrawn and Pellaeon make a good Holmes and Watson team.  Has too many callbacks to the movies, like catch phrases and references, but otherwise the movie characters feel true to their origins and continue to develop.  Plus the new characters are a great addition.  It's enough to make you wish this had been the sequel trilogy instead of the garbage we got.

Alot better than the first in my opinion. After going through all the story building in the first this one just dives straight into it. The characters feel more like themselves the universe is nice and familiar and it builds on the first book nicely. The ending is a little bit like the first where it felt rushed and not really a proper ending but just more buildup for the next book. Its just a personal preference but when its a multiple book series I still like a pretty big Bang in the ending not a bunch of small little endings to build up the final book. Love Karrde tho, was introduced to him in the x wing series and he's becoming a favourite of mine. Excited for the final book but still need to take a break from the series and not go straight into the third. 5 stars but a weak 5.

This trilogy is some of the best star wars out there - exactly what the EU should always be. Amazing villains and the OT characters keep developing in really interesting ways. The continuation of the OT we all deserved - its just like star wars never stopped

What a sequel! I actually liked this better than the first book, I think because this one capitalizes really well on the stakes that the first book establishes, and then takes those stakes one step further. The storylines felt more interesting in this book, especially Leia's, and I liked Mara's character a lot more in this book as well. Thrawn is obviously a standout villain. This is just a super fun series.
