A wonderful book (at least for those who were passionate about paleontology and paleoanthropology even as teenagers), which has (almost) equally good sequels (not for long) until the author defecates on her own work in the sixth and last volume of the series.
Now a tragic movie starring Daryl Hannah, probably "straight to VHS"

Just as good the second time around!

I picked this up only because it was on the BBC Top 100 Reads list, and I was so surprised with how compelling it was. Ayla is one strong girl, and I was really engaged with her story.

She just needs to invent the wheel and the internet, and she'll be responsible for just about every invention in human history!
I loved this book as a pre-teen - it hasn't aged so well, but is still insanely readable!

The final book in the series (31 YEARS in the making) comes out on Tuesday. Time to re-read so I can remember what the hell happened. Read the first one 20 years ago.
