This and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World were two of the first intelligent adult books I ever read. They essentially started my obsession with smart fiction.

This almost reads like a childrens story at times -- though not any children's book you've ever read. The story is silly without being insulting. Robbins is a great story-crafter and for a young adult obsessed with finding meaning in everything, this book was simply perfect.

Plus, it only encouraged my obsession with red headed men.

Once I got through the first chapter and Tom Robbins tangential, wordy voice, I had a blast. It's a very fun, weird book. I must admit I skipped all the direct, typewritter referencing chapters.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, but at times it felt like Robbins was trying too hard. This annoyed me and there were at least two parts when I wanted to stop reading all together. I did not, however, and now I'm glad that I finished it.
