Alfred Blakesley, the Duke of Lowell is a wolf shifter, an Alpha who has been on the hunt for his mate. Of all places, he finds his mate in the form of Felicity, a human woman who has no idea about the world of shifters. Alfred, in his hope of confirming his future with Felicity, kidnaps her and brings her to his estate. His initial attempts of wooing her are disastrous, as he has absolutely no idea on how to charm a human woman. Felicity believes she mut remain single until she can claim her inheritance from her Uncle and cousins who do not have her best interests at heart. However, is she strong enough to withstand Alfred’s efforts? And is everything truly as it seems with her inheritance?

This was my first regency romance with paranormal elements, and if you love shifters/werewolves/paranormal elements in your romances, and you love regency romances such as Bridgerton, you will love this book. I definitely preferred the shifter side of this book and its paranormal elements, as opposed to the regency setting. The culture of the shifters, including the customs, holidays and power dynamics within the pack were my main draw to this book. It was rather steamy, perhaps a one chilli rating (explicit) but it isn’t as bad as most!

Tropes include fated mates, orphaned heiress and alpha male, with this definitely being a niche sort of book, blurring the lines of romance between the regency style and setting, with the addition of these paranormal humans attempting to find their own place within the pack, as well as the society. I preferred wolf Alfred for sure, especially the moments between Felicity and wolf Alfred, where she is unaware of his shifter side. These moments were so endearing and are such pure and warm moments (gave me Beauty and the Beast vibes for sure). I just wish Felicity had resisted a little more, it would have really amped up the tension and the steam.

This series has a lot of potential, and it would be interesting continuing the series and learning more about the great array of side characters introduced. Thank you to Love Books Tours and the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It was fine? This is the first romance I've read in the Regency period in a while, and this book is really heavy-handed about it. The language is very flowery and dense, so you have to concentrate. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it meant this book would not typically be a good casual read for me, as I was hoping for.

The synopsis had me believing this was going to be a fun, tongue in cheek comedy and while it has comedic moments and some fun banter, it takes itself very seriously. It is well written and I can see the care the author put into crafting it but this one wasn't quite my cup of tea.
The world building is surprisingly in-depth and it is interesting but I found it kind of clunkily added to the dialogue.
There was a weird sort of contempt for the dress of the time, this being a historical novel. The heroine wears men's clothes on numerous occasions and one of our characters designs and sews clothing for the heroine that are wildly out of fashion for the period for no other reason it seems than marking the heroine as unique and special.
There were multiple instances of important information being withheld from our heroine by our hero and while there is one justifiable secret, the rest felt like a weird power move that was even commented on by other characters.
The last 10 to 20 pages were a LOT of talking that felt like it was to make up for the lack of communication and relationship building that takes place in the rest of the book.

I randomly picked the audio book up and I was happy it turned out to be the first book in the series as I don't like to pick up series out of order.
It was an okay regency romance with a shifter spin on it. The characters was a bit easy to forget but it was an enjoyable listen while I did. Not sure if I want to continue with the series or not.
