I just wasn't feeling it.  My copy was a library ebook, so I returned it early.

"What I missed in brains, I made up for in spirit. But what you miss in brains might get you in trouble if you're not careful."

Murder at the Bookstore promised a cosy mystery, and it didn't deliver. It was not cosy and the answer to the mystery was fairly obvious from the very beginning.

The characters, especially our main character Jen, felt incredibly one dimensional, and no one was likeable. She repeatedly made poor decisions and maybe the intention was for her to come across as quirky and clutzy and bad ass, but she was cringey and borderline unbearable at times.

As for the romance - it was poorly written. There was no development and very little chemistry between Jen and the man we're supposed to believe she 'loved'
despite the fact that they only went on one real date in which he kept talking about another woman
. There was also an unnecessary number of men who were in love with Jen for the sake of it - she felt like a Mary Sue.
