I liked the plot, character, and setting, but I disliked the different povs because they weren't alligned on a timeline, so the reader knew what was going to happen because one character realized that, but has to re-live it for the other character.

I really liked this book! The representation of non-stright white people was refreshing! Every single character was either BIPOC, LGBT, non binary or a mix of all 3. Elves, Fae, magic and mystical creatures, What's not to love?

Also, the using a drum as a weapon kinda broke my brain at first but it was a really cool twist on the normal use of bows or swords in most fantasy stories.

I was yelling at the characters at the end about:
How dense are the elves to have never put it together that the new Crescent army battle magic was the Fae, and that they obviously were involved in the war aboveground? And how did they not know Komi was the Two Bladed Tyrant!
There wasn't too many surprises in the book , but I appreciated that it wasn't complex which made it easy to keep up with and fun to make predictions. And then satisfying when those predictions came true.

A little too much warmongering in the book for my taste though, Yeeran drives me nuts with this.
Also enemy to lover storylines just don't cut it for me.

Also just give me a story about Golan, I could stop here with everyone else's story lol.
Actually, I still want to know why Pila wants to return to the "Elven" lands with Yeeran. Who is this obeah? And where is the last human? They got to be around still too.

The book starts out pretty slow. Developments later on tie more importance to earlier details. There's 2-3 characters the book follows and they each have a unique perspective and story. There's political intrigue but at a distance from the main characters who are not pulling any of the strings. There's several detailed sexually explicit scenes between enthusiastically consenting adults. Queerness is an accepted and nearly assumed facet. Strong ending for a sequel that unfortunately isn't out yet.
