Fabulous read. Did not want it to end. Characters feel like people you’ve come to know and you want their story to continue unfolding.

Anna, her husband Carlo, and their son Roberto find themselves moving to Carlo’s hometown, Lizzanello (1934). There, we meet Antonio (Carlo’s brother), his wife Agata, their daughter Lorenza, and the rest of the town as we explore everyday life, jealousy, family secrets, and new beginnings.

In this saga, we effortlessly weave through various povs and jump between town drama -- there’s yearning, inner commentary, befriending outcasts, and A LOT of lingering effects of things left unsaid (we’re talking infidelity, desire, and daddy/mommy issues 👀). We also touch on historical moments like seeing women get the right to vote, the aftermath of war, and more fictional milestones of growing the winery, and seeing Lorenza and Roberto grow up.

With Anna she is the embodiment of a strong, independent, and a girl’s girl. She doesn’t go to church, read books, avoid gossip, makes pesto, and advocates for women. Despite being seen as an outlander, I love how she plants herself into the role of a letter carrier (a job usually associated with men). She’s also a romantic at heart and unapologetically herself, which you can’t help but be drawn to.

There’s also a charm to the small-town drama. Despite the messiness, I was engrossed with the mailroom talks, lingering moments, inner passions, the endless connections between each character (good and bad) -- oh, and the dirty little secrets that had me SCREAMING inside!! This book consumed me through and through.

Thanks, Crown Publishing for the copies!
