Very cute book which shows how love and acceptance of others is always better than fear and hate. This book was a cute story that had interesting characters that you learned to love. The main character fought multiple battles, via corporate culture, discrimination, and changing old ways. It was nice to see the world slowly changing for the better, even if it was just a fantasy world. I enjoyed this book immensely and it made me happy.

Book club book. I really wanted to like this one. It was picked because someone in my book club read an amazing review about it. Unfortunately this book missed the mark in so many ways.

Finding out it was based on the Sixties Scoop put this book in an entirely different context. Writing this feel-good book based on the trauma of indigenous folks does not sit right with me, even if the inspiration was loosely based. Idk the whole thing was kinda giving white savior vibes that I didn't like.

Even without the added context, the slow pace, lack of worldbuilding, unnecessary fatphobia, excessively self-deprecative main character, and all around shallow and sickly sweet writing just made the book a slog to get through. Sure there were some charming moments, and I did like the kids as characters, but it was outweighed heavily by all the cons. I came into this with high hopes; this is probably the most dissappointed I've ever been with a book.
