Katarina remains so dense and defenseless. But her kindness seems to save hearts. Alan finally realizes his feelings, but only at the last minute, and now he and Mary are in cahoots with each other against Jeord. And my golly, Prince Jeord is awful and disgusting. I hate him. While the book has many silly, fun moments, it tends to repeat scenes.

Enjoyed this just as much as the first book! Katarina remains a disaster bi and that's extremely valid of her. I like how this series doesn't take itself too seriously but also plays straight a lot of its more dramatic story beats.

I find that with stories such as this one, people (including myself) are prone to adding disclaimers to their praise. Prefaces such as, "it's not very complex but..." I think there should be a space carved out for works that can succeed on their own merit despite not being particularly highbrow. This series, just like its dear protagonist, is simple and heartfelt, and I don't think it would work as well any other way.

It seems the anime covers the first two light novels so i'm excited to see where the story will go!
Side note: Nicol looks so cute on this cover!!

I wonder if Katrina will ever realize the true depth of the feelings of her friends. I know she's still oblivious in the anime and considering what content was covered one each book thus far, I will definitely be covering content that the anime hasn't reached. If she does figure it out, how will she react? And will she pick someone as her OTP?

After the repeating sections in the first volume, I was looking forward to how this one could improve in its writing. However, this volume, on a technical level, is far worse. There’s tons of passive language where Katarina tells the reader about events after the fact, transitory scenes are glossed over, jumping several months at a time, and descriptions are at a bare minimum, if not glossed over entirely. A major character isn’t mentioned by name until three quarters of the way through, only to be revealed as a pun name. There’s even a whole section where the majority of the cast is regulated to the background, with one line of dialogue attributed to half a dozen characters. Finding out in the afterword that the author put this volume together in two months explains a lot, but it also makes me concerned for the remaining nine volumes in this series to date. I wanted to love this, but the writing left a lot to be desired.
