What a gorgeous, underrated book. Rilla is the last of the 'Anne of Green Gables' series, and follows the title character (the youngest of Anne's six children) as she is forced to grow up at speed following the outbreak of the First World War. Rilla's gradual transformation from slightly spoiled and selfish teenager to capable and considerate young woman and the portrayal of the Canadian home front were both excellently done.
I've read the Anne of Green Gables books at the rate of approx. one a year for the last seven years, after never getting to them as a child - I'm pleased to have finished them all, though for me the first two and last two entries in the series were by far the highlights, with a whole lot of not that much in the middle.

To była tak pięknie smutna książka. Aż dziwnie mi z tym, że nie będę mogła już sięgnąć po kolejny tom i dowiedzieć się, jakie były dalsze losy Ani, Gilberta, ich dzieci i przyjaciół.

This book is the most serious of the series but is still full of plenty of heart and humor. Montgomery doesn't hold back from tackling the realities of the many challenges and tragedies that happen to a family during war. However, watching Rilla and her loved ones develop courage, resilience, and strength in the face of adversity is inspiring. This story is beautiful and heart-warming.

This book was good but heart wrenching at times and the ending was a little unsatisfactory in that it left you wanting more and for the first time in 8 books, there was no more. Interesting perspective on WW1.

if the Great War by Taylor swift was a song.
I love this book so much. Rilla is the most amazing character. she’s relatable, she’s a heroine, she’s a brick. Walter.
