LOVED this book. It was smart, empowering, ethnically diverse, cute premise, flawed-by-likable main characters. Basically it had everything that makes a fun read. I had never read this author before, but this book made me want to check out her other books.

Sexy, representative of lots of identities, and super fun. Definitely a series to keep your eye on. I read #2 first (gah! hate it when I make that mistake!) but they work as standalone novels, as well. I am really looking forward to #3, specifically hoping she focuses on Lakshmi at some point <3 Non-hetero love and sex is the addition that I need for this series.

I received an ARC of this title from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Rhiannon "Rhi" Hunter is the CEO of Crush, an empowering dating app with millions of users. Rhi has climbed her way to the top despite many blows meant to destroy her. Now, Rhi is about to make her next big move to grow her empire: acquire Matchmaker, one of the first dating websites ever that still has a strong base of users. If only she could actually talk to the owner. And just when she thinks she's found her in, a blast from her past appears. Her last best date. The last man to blow her mind. The last man she trusted. The man who ghosted her.

Samson Lima is a former pro-football player and--at the request of his Aunt Annabelle--is the new face of Matchmaker. Now that football is behind him, and his Uncle Joe has passed away, Samson doesn't know what his future will hold. So the last thing he expects is to see a face in the crowd at his debut event for Matchmaker. The face of the woman who was his last date. The last woman whom he started to fall in love with after one night. The woman who he hadn't been able to contact sense. The woman he accidentally ghosted.

Funny, fluffy, and quite modern in lingo and how the characters interact with each other, "The Right Swipe" is a delightful, addicting read. It's also incredibly powerful and addresses two major concerns in today's news: the first being the #MeToo movement and sexual harassment in the workplace, and the second being how major sports empires--the NFL especially--address head injuries. The presentation of both of these issues is natural and direct the plot without letting the two issues consume the main characters and their respective goals and arcs. A phenomenal start to the Modern Love series, I can't wait to return and see which of the fabulous side characters will become the next main character.

“Are there any circumstances under which you’d give someone who ghosted you a second chance?”

Hey guys, so I finished The Right Swipe (Modern Love, #1) by Alisha Rai. Let me tell ya, it was a wild ride. Sometimes quite literally. THis book was quite wholesome, honest, real. It was reality within fiction. I loved how it dealt with so many here and now issues in our world today. Women's empowerment, women in the workplace and the challenges and issues associated with it. And especially, sexual harassment, in and out of the workplace. It also detailed the real impacts sexual harassment can do to a person, and it's consequences. They are real, it is real, and it does happen, no one should deny it. And it takes strength to admit what happened and to come to terms with it. It also highlights the importance of having friends to help you through a crisis like that. It is important to remember you are not alone in the struggle. YOu do not have to go through it alone. Even if it feels like the whole world is against you, someone always has your back. It certainly was a book for the modern ages. ANd love, it dealt with a bunch of issues surrounding love. Like trust in someone else, and trust in yourself and what happens when that trust is broken, how hard it can be for you and someone else to fix it. Behavior has a ripple effect, consequences, both seen and unseen. I enjoyed this book, at first I thought I wouldn't when I started reading it, but I guess I wasnt really invested in it.However, that soon turned out and I got so invested in this book, it's not even funny. I was hanging on for dear life. My emotions are all over the place. I walked that journey with the characters. I felt their fear, their anger, their ambition, their sorrow, and most importantly, their love. Gods, the characters. The author did an amazing job of building and creating these characters. The backgrounds are stellar, especially how we learn about them little by little, not too much information load. yes, some of the writing was a bit too much, in my opinion, details about clothings and locations, and stuff. But it doesnt take long for the heart of the story to bleed onto the pages. And the heart of the story is wrapped up in the two main characters, Sam and Rhi. They have alternating povs in this book, which I loved. I loved getting to hear their thoughts and know their feelings through the book. It was great. Rhi is such a strong female character. She has a bold, ambitious goal, and she wont let anyone stand in the way of it. SHe knows what she wants and she is bound determined to get it, no matter what. She didn't like the cards she was dealt, so she shuffled and dealt her own. She made her own reality out of the one she had been given. She is strong, she is courageous, she is powerful. She got into the industry not to show others what she could do, but to show herself what she was capable of. SHe wanted to be successful, for multiple reasons. She wanted the world. She wanted to build an empire, a feminine one. And i was all for it! But most importantly about Rhi, she is also human. She has worries, she has fears, she weaknesses. As much as she didnt want to admit she had weaknesses, she still has them. But it isn't the weaknesses that matter, it is how you deal with them and conquer them. She came, she saw, she conquered. And looked damn well while doing it. Especially with her eye candy, and here we have the other main character that stole my heart, Samson. Gods Samson. he is such a soft hearted, lovable, piece of male. Gods. he is also brave and strong and has a set, a big one. Sam also has his strengthens, like his loyalty to family and friends above all, and he is a gentleman, through and through, and he is kind, caring and just UGH, i wanna wrap him up and just snuggle with him. He also has his own weaknesses, most of them revolving around not dealing properly with the past, with spills into issues with the present. But gods, there is so much character development throughout this novel. And the two of them, their chemistry was INSANE. But really, it takes a big man to admit his faults and to apologize when he was in the wrong, but it also takes a strong woman to listen someone's apology, even though they hurt you badly. Yes, it can be scary to give someone your trust then have them break it, it is actually excruciating. It takes alot to give them more time and energy. To invest in them again and hope. Hope. Trust and Hope, the two main overarching concepts in this book. And love, about how one can fear what happens when love dies or the potential for that. And the other issues with love, how it impacts not only your internal world, but external. This book was rich with emotion and was intense at times,, when dealing with these concerns. IT also dealed with the pain of losing someone, working through that grief, and how everyone does it differently, and what to do after that. When detailing the pain and inner and outer turmoil. And I would also say loyalty as well, between the main characters, and those side characters. Gotta give them credit, They were awesome as well, they made the story feel even more real and genuine, for it is true that people have friends they confide in and all that. It was great to see them interacting with others, wholesome, truly. And the romance, *fans self* hot and sizzling, damn. I would definitely, um, say that this is a NA novel, certainly. No young teenager should really be reading all the...hot stuff....within this novel. That's just my opinion, but hey, whatever, who am i to tell you what or what not to read. Just fair warning, it is steamy and sexy and exhilarating. Whew, okay, so overall, the book was a good, deep, and wholesome read. The characters were great, the storyline was pretty great. ANd i also liked how the author managed to sprinkle in a little humor every now and then to kinda ease up the tension in the storyline. If you like internet dating and all that technical dating lingo, this book certainly had all of that. It was really modern, and I kinda wanna see if there will be a book two, gotta love my Sam. Alright, I think I rambled on long enough. Remember, this is all my opinion and if you want your own, read the book when it comes out. Okay, till next time, bye.
